BENNETT TO SPEAK AT NATIONAL DISABILITIES ACT SEMINAR PORTLAND, MAINE - Peter Bennett, attorney and managing partner with The Bennett Law Firm, P.A. will be speaking at and co-chairing the National Institute on the Americans with Disabilities Act to be held January 22-24, 1998 in New Orleans, La. The Institute is presented by the American Bar Association Center for Continuing Legal Education to provide the legal and human resource communities with information regarding the handling of complex disability and employment law issues. Peter Bennett, will address the national gathering of lawyers to explain the complicated issues involved with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and Workers Compensation. According to Marc Zaken, attorney and partner with Cummings and Lockwood of Stamford, Conn., Since the various employment laws are so intricate and intertwined, the legal community looks to experts like Peter Bennett to provide understanding and advice. The Bennett Law Firm, P.A., formerly Bennett and Associates, was founded in 1960 by Herbert H. Bennett. The firm specializes in a wide range of employment, labor law and tax issues on behalf of management throughout New England, including prevention of unionization, employment conflict resolution, collective bargaining and defense of wrongful discharge lawsuits. The firm also handles commercial, civil, environmental and banking litigation. Peter Bennett, a native of Portland, Maine, graduated from Harvard University in 1982 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1985, he received his law degree and Masters in Business Administration from the Boston University School of Law. Peter is a faculty member of the University of Southern Maine Department of Continuing Education for Business. He is a member of many professional and community organizations including the Maine State and American Bar Associations, the Defense Research Institute, the State Bar of Texas, and the Maine Trial Lawyers Association. Peter has authored several articles and legal reviews, including Direct Examination of the Defendant in a Wrongful Discharge Action, Litigating the Employment Tort Case: A Guide for Plaintiff and Defense Attorneys, American Bar Association (1995). He is a contributing author to the 1998 edition of Guide to Equal Employment Practices. |
