RELEASE: IMMEDIATE
CONTACT: Peter Bennett, PHONE: 207-773-4775 DATE: March 24, 1999 BENNETT TO CO-CHAIR AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION'S SECOND NATIONAL INSTITUTE ON THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT PORTLAND, MAINE - Peter Bennett, partner with The Bennett Law Firm, P.A. will be Co-Chair of the Second National Institute on the Americans with Disabilities Act to be held April 8-10, 1999 in Chicago. The National Institute is presented by the American Bar Association Center for Continuing Legal Education to provide the legal community with substantive and tactical information regarding the handling and trial of complex disability and employment law issues. In addition to serving as Co-Chair, Peter Bennett will address the national gathering of lawyers, executives and human resource professionals to update case law developments under the Family and Medical Leave Act. "Our purpose is to influence the development of the law in ways that can inform management as to how to structure their employment relationships in order to avoid or minimize liability. Unfortunately, a great deal of misunderstanding exists throughout our profession and in the courts on what the law really requires." Bennett helped create this series of annual National Institutes "to make this program the premier gathering point for practitioners, human resource professionals, insurance adjusters and business executives on issues evolving from the Americans with Disabilities Act. Each year we publish a comprehensive set of legal resource materials which bring added value to our participants for years to come." According to Marc Zaken, attorney and partner with Cummings and Lockwood of Stamford, Conn., and past chair of an ABA Committee on Employment Relations "Since the various disability and leave laws are so intricate and intertwined, the legal community looks to experts like Peter Bennett to provide understanding and advice." The Bennett Law Firm, P.A. was founded in 1960 by Herbert H. Bennett. The firm has specialized in a wide range of employment and labor issues on behalf of management throughout New England, including prevention of unionization, employment conflict resolution, collective bargaining and defense of wrongful discharge lawsuits. The firm also handles commercial, civil, environmental and banking litigation as well as tax and benefits matters. |
