CONTACT: Peter Bennett, PHONE: 207-773-4775 DATE: July 21, 2000 PETER BENNETT OF PORTLAND, MAINE, ELECTED TO GOVERNING BOARD OF TORT AND INSURANCE PRACTICE SECTION OF AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - Peter Bennett, of Portland, Maine was elected to the Council of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association at the close of the Association’s Annual Meeting in London today. Bennett practices with The Bennett Law Firm headquartered in Portland, Maine, which represents management throughout New England on issues of labor and employment law. In his role on the Tort and Insurance Practice Section’s 15 member governing board, Bennett will represent the concerns of smaller law firms, as well as defense litigators. Bennett is only the third Maine attorney ever elected to serve on this Board, the prior two being American Bar Association President-Elect Robert Hirshon and the late Honorable Edmund Muskie. Bennett received his Bachelors Degree cum laude from Harvard College where he was a John Harvard Scholar. He received his J.D. degree cum laude and his M.B.A. degree from Boston University where he was ranked first in his third year law school class. Bennett is admitted to the bars of Maine and Texas, as well as numerous federal courts including the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United States of America. Bennett has been long active in the American Bar Association’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section where he has chaired that Section’s Employer-Employee Relations Committee, Public Relations Committee, Family Life Committee and Membership Committee. In addition to his activities with the ABA, Bennett is a charter member of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms and is active in other legal organizations. He and his wife, Sandy, have one child: Haley. The Tort and Insurance Practice Section of the American Bar Association is the only bar association dedicated to the balanced representation of plaintiff’s attorneys, defense attorneys and corporate counsel. The Section has 26,000 members and is actively involved in legal education and initiatives to improve public access to equal justice. |
