PETER BENNETT, OF THE BENNETT LAW FIRM, P.A., PORTLAND, MAINE ELECTED REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT OF THE INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY OF PRIMERUS LAW FIRMS

Peter Bennett, President of The Bennett Law Firm has been elected a Vice President of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms at its recent Board of Directors meeting held in Chicago, Illinois.

Primerus is a non-profit nationwide network of elite small and medium sized law firms founded by John C. Buchanan, a Michigan trial attorney, as a response to a declining public perception of the legal profession.  Law firms must apply to Primerus and undergo a strict screening process before they are accepted for membership.  Primerus membership is limited to the top two percent (by reputation for integrity, excellence of work product, and outstanding client service) of the law firms in the nation.

Primerus accepts only those members who have committed themselves and their firms to six principles of professional service, according to Buchanan. Those principles are:

·        Irreproachable integrity guiding decisions large and small;

·        Civility in dealings with the bench and bar;

·        Excellence of work;

·        Reasonable fees;

·        Continuous pursuit of legal education;

·        Community involvement.

Primerus members believe that a livable just society depends on the rule of law and that lawyers have a duty to protect and defend the role of law in society.  “We feel that as lawyers, we are public servants” Buchanan said.  “It’s an honor to be a lawyer, and I think some people have forgotten it.”

Peter Bennett received an A.B. degree cum laude in Economics from Harvard College where he was a John Harvard Scholar as well as J.D. and M.B.A. degrees from Boston University, where he was an Edward F. Hennessey Distinguished Scholar.  Bennett serves on the Governing Council of the American Bar Association’s Tort and Insurance Practice Section and as Vice President of the Boston University School of Law Executive Committee.  He is also active in other legal and charitable organizations.
