CONTACT: Peter Bennett, PHONE: 207-773-4775 DATE: August 2, 2001 BENNETT TO ADDRESS AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION AT ANNUAL MEETING IN CHICAGO ON EMPLOYMENT LAW FOR THE 10TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR. Peter Bennett, Attorney and Managing Partner with the Bennett Law Firm, P.A. will speak before the American Bar Association on August 5, 2001, on a program entitled "Between a Rock and a Hard Place: How to Handle The Overlap of The FMLA, ADA, Worker's Compensation, ERISA, and Cobra" at the Association's Annual Meeting in Chicago. Bennett will speak on recent developments under the Family Medical Leave Act. He also will participate on panel discussions on handling litigation of employment claims arising from employee leave and disability situations. This year marks the tenth consecutive year Bennett has been invited to address the Annual Meeting of the 400,000 member American Bar Association. The Bennett Law Firm, P.A. was founded in 19670 by Herbert H. Bennett. The firm specializes in a wide range of of employment and labor law on behalf of management throughout New England, including prevention of unionization, employment conflict resolution, collective bargaining and defense of wrongful discharge and discrimination lawsuits, The firm also handles all types of commercial and civil litigation. Peter Bennett received his M.B.A. and J.D. degrees from Boston University where he is President Elect of the Law School's Executive Committee and Alumni Association. Mr. Bennett is active in numerous bar associations but most notably in the American Bar Association, where he serves on the Council of the Tort and Insurance Practice Section. Mr. Bennett is also charter member, Vice President and Board member of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms, the "good-housekeeping" seal of approval for lawyers, www.primerus.com. Mr. Bennett was a contributing author and/or editor of recent ABA books on the litigation of sexual harassment cases, the litigation of wrongful discharges cases, the insurance coverage of employment disputes, and the litigation of employment tort cases. He is also a contributing author and editor of Guide to Equal Employment Practices (1998). Mr. Bennett co-authored an article on employment defamation claims which appeared in the Spring 1998 edition of the Tort and Insurance Law Journal. Since1989 Mr. Bennett has been teaching Personnel Law and Labor Law courses for the University of Southern Maine's Human Resources Certificate Program. |
