ATTORNEY PETER BENNETT TO PRESENT AT 23RD ANNUAL NATIONAL WORKERS’ COMPENSATION AND OCCUPATIONAL MEDICINE SEMINAR IN HYANNIS, MASSACHUSETTS.
HYANIS, MASSACHUSETTS -- PETER BENNETT, a Portland, Maine management attorney, will be speaking at the 23rd Annual National Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Medicine Seminar to be held in Hyannis, Massachusetts from July 22 - 24, 2003. Bennett will address the nation’s leading workers’ compensation professionals, occupational physicians, occupational nurses and attorneys on the topic of “Employee Disability Triggered Misconduct: What to Do and Not to Do”.
Attorney Bennett’s remarks will discuss the Americans with Disabilities Act, with emphasis on the provisions which impact an employer’s control over job performance, such as reasonable accommodation, undue hardship and the safety defense. He will review the law in the area of employee misconduct related to or triggered by a disability. Attorney Bennett will distinguish on-duty versus off-duty misconduct and explain their legal ramifications, as well as offer practical suggestions on handling employee performance issues to minimize the potential for liability. Bennett served as counsel to Lepage Bakeries, Inc. in Reed v. Lepage Bakeries, Inc., the leading case in the nation on this subject.
Bennett is President of The Bennett Law Firm, a Portland, Maine firm which specializes in representing management throughout the Northeast on matters of labor and employment law. He has written and lectured extensively on employment law issues, and was the lead defense counsel in several ground breaking cases dealing with employee disability triggered misconduct.
